Hey I'm Zuri! I am 23 years old and I currently am a Dance Theatre student at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. I have been dancing since the age of 3 and have dreams of one day becoming a Broadway dancer. I have always wanted to be a professional dancer but choose not to pursue my passion after graduating high school. I was too afraid to pursue dancing because I didn’t believe I was good enough. Many teachers throughout my life told me that I wasn't a good enough dancer. I was placed in the back often during dances and many times had to fight for attention. I even had some teachers who looked me straight in the face and told me that they didn’t want to put me in the front because I would embarrass myself. It’s amazing that all those comments teachers said to me almost, almost kept me from pursuing my dream. But God, had a different plan for me and it became very clear after graduating college. After high-school, I went on to pursue a "normal degree" at St. John's University in Public Relations. After graduating, I applied to 9 to 5 jobs for months and didn't hear of anything. One night while taking a break from applying to jobs, I went to go see Motown the Musical on Broadway. This, was when my whole life changed. The show reminded me of the dream God instilled in me since I was a little girl and something inside of me was telling me not to ignore that dream anymore and to pursue it. It took a-lot of self reflection, prayer, fasting, and discussions with family and friends, but finally I decided to audition for the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. I choose this school because it would give me training in acting, singing, and dancing and prepare me for Broadway auditions. After longs hours of rehearsing I auditioned for AMDA in May of 2013. I was a nervous wreck but I made it through my audition and interview process. Just two weeks later I got a call from my admissions advisor saying that I was accepted!!! I couldn’t believe it! I thought I was dreaming! It was and still is a dream come true! I am so thankful to finally be dancing at an amazing school and living my dream. I created this blog to document my journey to becoming a Broadway Dancer. Continue to follow my blog for more information about my journey. I will be posting videos, pictures, information about my first audtion and what it's like on to road to Broadway! Won’t it be amazing to say that you came along for the ride with me? That you knew me way back when. Thanks for reading! Pack your bags its going to be a bumpy ride!
